About the position
The Ambulatory Care Assistant (Medical Assistant) position at West Virginia University Hospitals involves providing essential support in an outpatient clinic setting, specifically within the OB/GYN department. The role focuses on patient care and treatment, assisting medical staff with clerical and clinical tasks to ensure efficient operations and meet patient needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to medical staff to assure patients' needs are met and to ensure efficient operation of the outpatient unit.
- Assist providers in completing requisitions or forms for patient examination or testing.
- Ensure availability of test results for patient visits and assist patients and providers during medical office visits.
- Administer prescribed medication under the supervision of the attending provider.
- Perform qualitative and quantitative tests and examinations of specimens.
- Obtain and document patients' specimens as ordered and report test results to the medical provider.
- Perform assigned and/or all ordered POCT tests after training and maintain quality control testing and logs.
- Schedule additional ancillary testing as needed and assist providers with requisitions or forms for patient examination or testing.
- Act as a chaperone during medical examinations.
- Ensure medical records and test results are available for visits.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or Med Ed Program, or one year of clinical experience.
- West Virginia state criminal background check, and federal, if applicable, required for DHHR regulated area.
- Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within six (6) months if hired before March 3, 2024, or within 30 days if hired on or after March 3, 2024.
Nice-to-haves
- Registration or Certification as a Medical Assistant.
- One year of experience as a Medical Assistant or in patient care.
