About the position

A Waste Water Maintenance Manager Mechanical oversees the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment in a wastewater treatment plant and pumping station. Work of this class involves directing the activities of maintenance technician and equipment operations work units. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek: callback or overtime may be required in emergencies. Work is performed primarily in an office; however, incumbents may be required to be present at work sites where there may be exposure to hazardous chemicals such as chlorine, methane, polymers, hydrogen, sulfide, waste pickle liquor, lime and ferric chloride and pathogenic bacteria and viruses. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment in a wastewater treatment plant and pumping station.
  • Direct the activities of maintenance technician and equipment operations work units.
  • Ensure compliance with safety precautions for maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment.
  • Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program for mechanical equipment.
  • Make field inspections to ensure compliance with approved specifications.
  • Evaluate new materials, tools, and equipment and make recommendations.
  • Write technical reports.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years of experience in performing mechanical engineering work including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the equipment, tools, and materials used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles and practices to design and installation problems.
