About the position

The position involves determining optimal mammographic image quality through proper compression, technique, and positioning. The technologist will secure patient history regarding the reason for the mammography exam and record it for the radiologist's information. Responsibilities include positioning patients, adjusting equipment, and determining appropriate radiographic techniques based on anatomy and patient condition to obtain quality films. The role also requires operation of advanced digital mammography equipment and PACS, assisting radiologists with stereotactic and needle localization exams, and maintaining equipment as required. The technologist will deliver patient care with a 'Service First' approach, demonstrating excellent communication skills and maintaining positive customer relations. Leadership responsibilities may include assuming a leadership role in the absence of the mammography lead and participating in team problem-solving to improve patient care and department operations.

Responsibilities

  • Determines mammographic optimal image quality by using proper compression, technique and positioning.
  • Secures history from patient regarding reason for mammography exam and records on appropriate form for Radiologists information.
  • Positions patient, adjusts equipment, and compression devices as necessary, using tact and courtesy at all times.
  • Determines appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patient's condition to obtain quality films.
  • Operates advanced digital mammography equipment and PACS.
  • Assists Radiologists with stereotactic and needle localization exams.
  • Prepares procedure rooms for exams and maintains equipment as required.
  • Troubleshoots diagnostic mammography and PACS equipment and communicates appropriately before equipment breakdown.
  • Performs daily phantom QC in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Delivers patient care and a 'Service First' approach in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills by answering questions from various hospital personnel.
  • Maintains positive customer relations following prescribed department policies.
  • Assumes leadership role in absence of mammography lead to ensure continuity of department operations.
  • Participates in team problem-solving issues that would improve patient care and department operations.
  • Coordinates the flow of patients into and out of the department in accordance with established procedures.
  • Checks image quality to assure optimum quality and makes sure correct image labeling is provided.
  • Participates and recommends changes that would improve image quality.
  • Adheres to safety practices and provides a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Assumes a leadership role in providing instruction and direction to students and technologists.
  • Attends to personal work schedule in a consistent and professional manner.
  • Demonstrates self-direction by identifying learning needs and establishing self-development activities.
  • Completes all development goals and departmental inservices and competencies within timeframe.
  • Works independently while maintaining adaptability and flexibility for change.

Requirements

  • Must be ARRT certified.
  • Minimum of one year Mammography experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and perform sophisticated procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to operate most radiographic equipment within work areas of Mammography.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and confidence in performance of Mammography procedures.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities.
  • Licensed Radiographic Technologist by the IDNS.
  • CPR certification.
