About the position

The X-Ray Shipfitter position at General Dynamics Electric Boat involves interpreting construction drawings and blueprints while possessing a solid understanding of steel fabrication. This role is crucial in the assembly and installation of various submarine components, contributing to the construction of advanced submarines. The position offers opportunities for growth and requires working in various conditions, including confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Fitting hull butts, critical inserts, and penetrations.
• Layout, fabrication, assembly, and installation of foundations, structures, bulkheads, frames, components, and deck packages.
• Developing a working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning, and grinding operations.
• Aligning parts in relation to each other using jacks, clips, and wedges through the use of blueprints and templates.
• Tack-welding structural parts as required.
• Reading and interpreting written policies, procedures, and guidelines as work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in shipfitting, metal fabrication, and/or relevant experience.
• Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and under extreme temperature conditions as required.
• Ability to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, and diagrams.
• Basic mathematical skills.
• Possession of basic hand tools.

• Experience working in the construction industry or a manufacturing environment.
