About the position

The X-Ray Technician is responsible for performing high-quality radiographs on various patients, including in-patients, emergency room patients, and private outpatients. This role involves utilizing lead shielding as necessary, developing X-rays, providing patient comfort, and maintaining accurate patient records. The technician also ensures a clean and orderly environment in the radiology department and reports any equipment issues to the appropriate personnel.

Responsibilities

• Performs and obtains high quality radiographs on all patients (i.e. In-Patients, Emergency Room Patients or Private Out Patients); recognizes the need for and utilizes lead shielding where appropriate in accordance with departmental policies.
• Transports patients to and from X-Ray rooms as required.
• Assists the Radiologist with hard-to-move patients when requested.
• Utilizes all X-ray equipment permitted within the scope of their license and training.
• Effectively utilizes the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities and in accordance with hospital policy.
• Delivers assessment, treatment, and patient care responsibilities with knowledge of patient growth and development appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
• Provides excellent customer service with respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience, and helpfulness.
• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
• Develops all X-rays when required and provides patient comfort (e.g., bedpans, blankets) as needed.
• Performs required clerical work when necessary to maintain patient records.
• Maintains a clean and orderly environment to include Radiology Room, Radiology Equipment, and Radiology Accessories.
• Informs appropriate personnel when equipment is in need of repair.

Requirements

• Completion of approved course of study
• At least one (1) year of experience as an X-Ray Technician
• New York State License as X-Ray Technician (Legally Required)
• Completion of approved course of study in Radiology/X-Ray (Required)
• Computer Literate (Required)
