About the position

The Y-12 Chemical/Process Design Engineer is responsible for developing high-quality detailed design packages, providing engineering procurement and field technical support, and troubleshooting plant systems. The role involves preparing conceptual engineering deliverables, conducting analyses, and collaborating with an integrated project team to ensure effective design implementation.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality detailed design packages.
• Provide engineering procurement and field technical support.
• Prepare conceptual engineering deliverables such as cost estimates and design criteria.
• Conduct walk-downs in existing plant facilities to generate design documents.
• Participate in chemical design engineering support including feasibility and conceptual studies.
• Perform flowsheet development including block diagrams and process flow diagrams.
• Conduct analyses and calculations, and prepare reports and studies.
• Support safety basis documentation and equipment sizing and arrangements.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent, or a Master's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.3, or a PhD with a minimum GPA of 3.5.
• 0 years of relevant experience required for all educational levels.
• Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 regarding education and experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance.

Nice-to-haves

• 7 years of relevant experience.
• Professional Engineering License (PE).
• Knowledge of technical standards, principles, theories, and concepts.
• Demonstrated technical capabilities and leadership.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
