About the position

The Y Teen L.I.F.E. Program Assistant at the Alief YMCA is responsible for implementing youth-centric programming that fosters leadership development, college access, career readiness, and civic engagement among teens. This part-time role focuses on creating a supportive environment for youth, ensuring program quality, and maintaining effective communication with participants and their families.

Responsibilities

• Implement curriculum within established guidelines.
• Design and implement daily lesson/activity plans.
• Lead participants in the successful completion of all aspects of the teen leadership experience.
• Facilitate leadership development opportunities for participants.
• Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
• Maintain required program records.
• Supervise teens under the direction of the Program Director or Manager.
• Make sound decisions in alignment with YMCA standards.
• Act as a role model to the teens by exemplifying the YMCA's five core values.
• Maintain communication with participants and engage parents.
• Attend and participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainings.
• Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Ensure youth are properly signed in and signed out, and that only authorized adults are allowed in the facility.

Requirements

• Minimum 21 years of age and/or 5 years older than the oldest participant.
• High school diploma or GED.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
• Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate program activities.
• Previous experience with diverse populations.
• Current record of tuberculosis examination and/or current local health department regulations, examinations, and/or immunization as required.
• Pass a local/state background and FBI fingerprinting check as well as independent drug test.
• Clear record to operate driving YMCA buses.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior childcare or babysitting experience is preferred.
