About the position
The Yard Driver plays a crucial role in the Fremont Yard Operations team at RMG, responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of containers within the facility using shag trucks. This position requires effective communication and a focus on safety while handling heavy equipment in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Safely and effectively operate a shag truck with or without a chassis/container.
- Execute work instructions and communicate progress over the radio or on a tablet.
- Develop an understanding of the yard layout and decking strategy.
- Actively search for, identify, and communicate safety or maintenance issues.
- Conduct daily pre-trip inspections on the equipment you intend to drive.
- Apply seals and bulkheads to containers and document the process.
- Assist the Yard and Rail operation when asked by leadership.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Preferred 1 year experience driving a yard truck or double axel.
- Organizational skills.
- Follows instructions.
- Effective communication verbally and over the phone.
- Ability to occasionally lift over 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to push and pull up to 80 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders.
