About the position
The Yard Driver position at McLane Company involves providing support for trailer movement at the distribution center, preparing trailers for shipping, and monitoring the status of loaded trailers. This role is essential for ensuring the efficient operation of the yard and requires a valid CDL A license along with relevant driving experience.
Responsibilities
- Drive tractor and maneuver into position to attach trailer and handle lines to secure.
- Clean and spot trailers to specified doors or lot locations.
- Inspect trailers for defects and submit inspection reports indicating condition.
- Inspect loaded trailers to ensure product is secure for undamaged transport and that refrigeration units are functioning.
- Drive tractor-trailer within the yard or short distances outside, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations.
- Meet the physical demands of the position.
- Select/load/unload and/or deliver all products ordered by customers.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 2 years related driving experience is desired.
- 100,000-mile tractor-trailer experience is desired.
- Possess Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) required.
- Accident-free driving record for the past three years desired.
- Ability to read and comprehend labels, instructions, and bill of lading required.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations to verify quantities of product required.
