About the position

Union Pacific Railroad is seeking a dedicated paralegal intern to join its Law Department. This year-round internship is designed for paralegal students who are eager to gain practical experience in a corporate legal environment. The intern will work closely with experienced paralegals, assisting in the review and analysis of legal documents, conducting fact-gathering and legal research, and drafting various legal documents. The scope of work will encompass areas such as Labor, Employment, Personal Injury, and Real Estate litigation, as well as regulatory and transactional matters. The ideal candidate will have completed at least two years of paralegal studies by May 2025 and will possess strong writing and communication skills, which are essential for success in this role. The internship will be based at Union Pacific's headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, and offers a flexible work schedule that can be tailored to accommodate the intern's academic commitments. During the summer months, the intern can work up to 40 hours per week, while during the academic year, the average work commitment will be between 15 to 20 hours per week. This flexibility allows students to balance their educational responsibilities with valuable work experience in a professional setting. The estimated wage for this position ranges from $20.00 to $26.00 per hour, with the final pay rate determined by factors such as the intern's year of study, qualifications, experience, and internal equity within the company. Responsibilities

  • Assist other paralegals with review and analyses of documents.
  • Conduct fact gathering and legal research.
  • Draft legal documents for various legal matters.
  • Support Labor, Employment, Personal Injury, and Real Estate litigation projects.
  • Engage in regulatory and transactional matters as needed.
  • Perform administrative support for department business group managers.
  • Develop and execute project action plans and perform team assignments.
  • Build and strengthen a network of professional contacts within departments and across the company.
  • Assist with project management for various company initiatives and complete administrative tasks and special projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • College credits equivalent to one year toward an undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic organization, prioritization, and time/project management skills.
