About the position

The Education Coordinator for the YES Program at Lakeview Academy plays a crucial role in providing leadership support during afterschool hours, dedicating up to 19 hours per week from Monday to Thursday. This position serves as a vital liaison between the YES Director and various stakeholders, including afterschool teaching staff, school day teachers, administrators, and parents/guardians of student participants. The primary goal is to enhance the academic achievement of participants, ensuring they meet the program's objectives for on-time promotion and graduation. In addition to acting as a liaison, the Education Coordinator is responsible for a range of administrative tasks. This includes assisting the Director with the recruitment and selection of students, collecting and managing student records, overseeing daily site operations, and supervising all site staff, which encompasses teachers, enrichment specialists, tutors, volunteers, and site assistants. The Coordinator collaborates with school administration and day school teachers to ensure that the afterschool program aligns with the day school curriculum. They also work with afterschool teachers to facilitate common planning for academic staff and organize culmination activities for enrichment programs. Furthermore, the Coordinator ensures that lesson plans are tailored to target individual student success and that the YES Program has access to necessary computer-assisted technologies and online programs as outlined in the grant application. The role also involves preparing and conducting staff meetings and professional development training for YES site staff, creating a monthly calendar of activities, and participating in training and professional development workshops. This position is integral to the success of the YES Program, fostering an environment that promotes academic excellence and personal growth among students.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of classroom experience with documented work history in after-school programs.
  • Uncertified applicants must have a demonstrated work history in out-of-school or afterschool programs and knowledge of state and district academic standards/assessments.
  • Must be able to satisfy a FBI national criminal background check and/or drug screen.

Nice-to-haves

  • State of Georgia Teaching Certificate or eligibility for a Georgia State Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience using Georgia ASYD Quality Standards.
