About the position

The Young 5's Paraprofessional at Hamilton Community Schools plays a crucial role in supporting the educational needs of young students. This position involves assisting the Young 5's teacher with individualized and small group instruction, providing care and support to students throughout the school day, and ensuring a positive learning environment. The paraprofessional will engage with students during various activities, including classroom instruction, recess, and lunch, while also contributing to the instructional program through data utilization and assessment support.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Young 5's teacher with individualized and small group instruction and care of students.
  • Lead small groups of learners and provide written and verbal feedback.
  • Assist with utilizing data (Acadience, Fountas and Pinnell, EBLI, iReady, etc.) to make instructional decisions.
  • Assist with assessing students with Acadience and other assessments.
  • Monitor recess, lunchroom, and before-school activities.
  • Manage students both in small and large groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma.
  • Ability to relate well with students, staff, and parents in a positive manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to follow written and oral communication.
  • Ability to problem-solve.
  • Ability to read and understand instructional materials presented to students.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with all students, staff, and school community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district and BOE policies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous work experience with elementary-age students, including students with special needs.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Title I - Paraprofessional Qualifications (College degree; OR Completed 60 college credit hours; OR Achieve a passing score on one of the MDE-approved formal state academic assessments).
