About the position

The Youth Basketball Instructor at the YMCA is responsible for instructing various sports and recreation programs for youth, focusing on creating a safe and inclusive environment. The role emphasizes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, ensuring a quality experience for participants and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct programs as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
  • Assist in the development of programming.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Increase participant awareness of whole-person health.
  • Set up and take down class equipment.
  • Report any equipment needs to the supervisor.
  • Accurately maintain related records.
  • Convey basic information on YMCA programs and schedules to members and refer them to other programs or staff as appropriate.
  • Attend staff meetings and approved training as required.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children and teens.
  • Attend required abuse risk management training annually.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma; College level education is preferred.
  • Prior experience in education, recreation, physical education, teaching, or childcare is preferred.
  • Successful completion of background and Child Abuse and Neglect screening.
  • Acquire and maintain certifications in First Aid/CPR/AED before the start date.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in teaching or coaching youth sports.
  • Additional certifications in youth development or recreation.
