About the position

The Youth Care Specialist I-III positions involve providing custodial supervision and support to youths in secure care facilities. The role focuses on ensuring the enforcement of rules and regulations, facilitating daily activities, and promoting the social adjustment of youths. Specialists are responsible for observing behavior, maintaining security, and documenting progress, while also engaging in rehabilitation and treatment activities.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and participate in daily activities of assigned youth, including recreation, education, and personal hygiene.
• Observe youth behavior and provide written and oral reports on observations to other staff.
• Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with youth to assist with their social adjustment.
• Interpret and teach facility procedures, rules, and disciplinary policies to youths.
• Implement facility security procedures, including regular checks and monitoring of high-risk youths.
• Assist in handling serious disturbances and monitor visitors to the facility.
• Escort youths to activities and appointments, ensuring their supervision and conduct.
• Prepare and maintain records and reports related to youth behavior and treatment plans.

Requirements

• Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Knowledge of behavior management and appropriate modification strategies.
• Experience in supervising youth in daily activities.
• Ability to write narrative reports.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License.
