About the position

The Youth Care Worker (YCW) at VisionQuest is responsible for providing direct care supervision for children in a residential setting. This role focuses on fostering a safe and supportive environment that promotes learning and behavioral management, adhering to professional standards and policies. The YCW engages with children in various activities, ensures their safety, and assists with their daily needs while maintaining documentation of their progress and behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision of children in care and maintain line of sight at all times.
  • Oversee children during recreation, mealtime, leisure time, and play.
  • Develop positive rapport with youth and serve as a role model.
  • Teach, coach, and supervise children in activities of daily living.
  • Interact with children during recreational time and play games.
  • Conduct orientation, intake, and property inventory upon the child's arrival.
  • Provide essential needs to children such as clothing and hygiene products.
  • Assist with planning and coordination of special events and activities.
  • Assist with children's legal, medical, and dental appointments.
  • Administer over-the-counter and prescribed medications.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard-free facility.
  • Document the child's progress, behavior, and health while in care.
  • Report maintenance and supply needs.
  • Assist in the evacuation of children during emergencies.
  • Provide training to new hires regarding role responsibilities.
  • Participate in mandatory training opportunities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent degree.
  • 1 year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Valid driver's license and eligibility to drive for program services.
  • Cleared tuberculosis test results.
  • Ability to pass a drug test and provide proof of required vaccinations.
  • Cleared background checks from appropriate entities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience in First Aid and CPR certification.
