About the position

The Youth Coordinator at the Kentucky Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) is responsible for developing and coordinating a youth advisory council aimed at empowering youth with disabilities. This role involves mentoring, advocacy, and collaboration with various stakeholders to promote leadership skills and awareness of rights among youth aged 14-24. The position is remote but requires statewide travel for community engagement and training activities.

Responsibilities

• Mentor youth with disabilities on a statewide level.
• Create a statewide Youth Advisory Council consisting of youth ages 14-24.
• Host monthly Youth Advisory Council peer and training calls promoting best practices in youth services.
• Plan and arrange guest speakers for the Youth Advisory Council calls.
• Represent SILC and the youth disability community on relevant boards, committees, and councils.
• Partner with the Kentucky Department of Education and Office of Vocational Rehabilitation for Youth Advisory Council responsibilities.
• Participate in community events, including presentations and tabling events.
• Travel statewide to meet with youth, attend training, and engage with community partners.

Requirements

• At least two years of full-time experience working with people with disabilities.
• Knowledge of disability rights and the Independent Living Philosophy.
• Strong organizational and customer service skills.
• Previous experience working with youth or in youth advocacy.
• Experience in delivering presentations and leading groups.
• Leadership and interpersonal skills with diverse peers and management.
• Ability to function independently and adapt to multiple assignments and deadlines.
• Computer proficiency.
• Ability to interact personally with people, businesses, and service organizations.
