About the position

The Youth Counselor Supervisor at Cabarrus Youth Development Center is responsible for overseeing staff and ensuring the effective operation of the facility. This role involves providing supervision during shifts, coordinating workflow, training staff, and ensuring compliance with treatment plans and standards. The supervisor will also participate in hiring processes, performance evaluations, and administrative responsibilities, while providing specialized programming and intense supervision in a specialized unit.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff during shifts and provide cross supervision for facility operations.
  • Coordinate workflow and balance workloads among staff.
  • Train staff and arrange for formal training as needed.
  • Plan and review program and service needs with staff, formulating goals and objectives.
  • Provide input to the facility director and clinical staff on service needs.
  • Participate in the interview and selection process, making hiring recommendations.
  • Conduct performance management planning and evaluations for supervised staff.
  • Implement and monitor performance-based standards established by the Council for Juvenile Correctional Administrators.
  • Conduct security inspections and maintenance checks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three years of experience working with juvenile/family client populations or related human services experience.
  • Knowledge of individual and group behavior, child and adolescent development, and counseling techniques.
  • Experience assessing clients and developing treatment plans.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with adolescents and their families.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of minority group cultures and behavioral/developmental challenges.
  • Experience working collaboratively with treatment team members.
