About the position

The Youth Development Site Lead at the Bankside YMCA of Greater Houston is responsible for overseeing the afterschool program, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children. This role involves implementing age-appropriate activities, managing staff, and maintaining compliance with state regulations. The Site Lead focuses on youth development, fostering positive interactions among children, and engaging with parents and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the designated Texas Childcare Licensing Site Director, ensuring compliance with all YMCA Houston and state regulations.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the afterschool program, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for all children.
  • Maintain the program site and equipment, assisting with the set-up and breakdown of activity centers and cleaning of the program area.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all children and staff at the site, maintaining accurate records including attendance and incident reports.
  • Monitor children's activities to ensure safe and age-appropriate behaviors, conducting regular headcounts and maintaining attendance records.
  • Implement positive behavior management techniques to promote a respectful and inclusive environment.
  • Conduct regular safety drills and inspections to ensure compliance with licensing requirements and organizational policies.
  • Oversee the implementation of age-appropriate activities, encouraging positive social interactions among children.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding their child's progress and address any concerns promptly.
  • Maintain accurate enrollment and attendance records, including sign-in sheets and daily rosters.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote program growth and increase enrollment.
  • Plan and implement lesson/activity plans that adhere to YMCA program model and quality standards.
  • Lead Youth Program Quality (YPQ) intervention process to evaluate program effectiveness and make necessary adjustments.
  • Report suspicious behaviors and policy violations, ensuring adherence to child protection policies.

Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 70 clock hours of training in child or youth development, recreational leadership or management.
  • At least 1 year experience working with youth at a licensed facility, church, school or equivalent.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention trainings.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations and supervising others preferred.
  • Current record of tuberculosis examination and/or health department regulations as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous childcare or babysitting experience is preferred.
