About the position

The Youth Development Specialist position at Milton Hershey School involves married couples serving as flex houseparents in on-campus student homes. This role is designed to provide a nurturing and family-like environment for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, guiding them through their daily lives and educational experiences. Flex houseparents will initially cover various student homes before being assigned to a specific one, ensuring a consistent and supportive atmosphere for the students.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and nurture a group of approximately 8-12 students in an on-campus home.
  • Provide a consistent family-like structure for students.
  • Handle responsibilities such as driving, administering medication, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Lead students in daily devotions and take them to Judeo-Christian Sunday chapel services.
  • Ensure a smoke-free and weapon-free environment in the student home.

Requirements

  • Experience working or volunteering with youth, preferably from under-served settings.
  • Both spouses must be legally married for at least two years.
  • Both spouses should be age 27 or older.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to become certified to drive student home vans.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of integrity as role models for students.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in educational or youth development settings.
  • Familiarity with Judeo-Christian values and practices.
