About the position

The Youth Enrichment Specialist (YES) at the East Cleveland Neighborhood Center is responsible for providing enriching and safe in-school and after-school programming for youth. This role involves acting as a positive role model and mentor while delivering evidence-based social-emotional learning and academic enrichment services. The specialist will work closely with students, teachers, and community members to foster a nurturing environment that supports the growth and development of scholars.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with an assigned group of scholars to provide innovative and stimulating programming activities.
  • Act as a positive adult role model, coach, and mentor for students.
  • Deliver evidence-based Social-Emotional Learning and Substance Abuse Prevention programs.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and funding agency guidelines.
  • Provide age-appropriate and culturally relevant direct services to children and adolescents.
  • Create and lead weekly group sessions focused on developing SEL competencies.
  • Foster relationships with students, teachers, guidance counselors, and parents.
  • Document service activities and maintain organized records.
  • Assist in evaluating prevention programs and suggest improvements.
  • Participate in community-wide prevention and SEL activities.
  • Maintain competence with evidence-based practices through training and education.
  • Obtain and maintain required certifications.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ohio Registered Applicant certification or higher from Ohio Chemical Dependency Professional Board (Agency will assist with attaining).
  • A minimum of an associate's degree or higher in public health, marketing, education, social work, psychology, counseling, or related field is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, reasoning, and judgment.
  • Prior experience in delivering programs to children/youth preferred.
  • Understanding of social and emotional learning competencies, trauma-informed practices, and cultural competence.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in community service or youth programs.
  • Knowledge of risk and protective factors and human behavior modification principles.
