About the position

The Reflections Youth Essential Coordinator (YEC) plays a vital role in facilitating the Reflections program, which is part of the Behavioral Health Program at REAP. This position focuses on providing proactive, student-centered support to students facing behavioral and disciplinary challenges. The YEC will implement targeted interventions based on restorative justice principles and social-emotional skill building, aiming to enhance student engagement and leadership within their school communities.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Reflections programming at assigned public schools in the Portland Metropolitan area.
  • Provide direct support to students referred to Reflections programming through various interventions.
  • Manage a caseload of students with disciplinary and behavioral needs.
  • Provide individual and group support focusing on behavioral management and emotional resilience.
  • Exercise conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques with students.
  • Support students in achieving social and academic goals, creating incentives for personal development.
  • Teach self-advocacy skills, emotional awareness, and confidence building to students.
  • Provide academic support through classroom push-ins and designated workspaces.
  • Collaborate with school staff and counselors to create individualized support plans.
  • Engage with parents and guardians regarding student behavior and intervention plans.
  • Connect students to external resources, including behavioral health services.
  • Prepare reports on behavioral trends and intervention outcomes.
  • Evaluate school discipline policies to foster a positive school culture.
  • Assess the effectiveness of activities and interventions within the Reflections curriculum.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with youth in a behavioral or disciplinary support setting.
  • Experience in de-escalating challenging behaviors and utilizing intervention strategies.
  • Knowledge of restorative justice practices and social-emotional learning.
  • Ability to assess and respond to diverse student needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships with students and families.
  • Strong facilitation skills to manage group dynamics and address conflict.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Nice-to-haves
