About the position

The Youth Essentials Coordinator (YEC) position is focused on advocacy, innovation, and leadership development for students in grades 3-12, primarily supporting the Renaissance program. This role emphasizes the importance of affirming the positive identity and self-worth of young males of color, who face significant challenges in social and academic attainment. The YEC will facilitate core programs, collaborate with educators, and provide guidance to students, ensuring their academic and emotional needs are met.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate REAP core programs at assigned public schools in the Portland Metropolitan area.
  • Meet with teachers and counselors to support the academic, social, and emotional learning of students.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings at the REAP headquarters.
  • Assist with the coordination of program reporting, including data compilation and analysis.
  • Research community leadership opportunities for students and manage program specifics and community events related to leadership and business innovation.
  • Facilitate classroom visits to report school climate trends and provide student support follow-up.
  • Assist with the weekly caseload of 1:1 student advocacy meetings.
  • Prepare and plan program activities and curriculum.
  • Regularly meet with students to provide support and guidance.
  • Actively recruit students to participate in the Renaissance program.
  • Collaborate with the Renaissance team for updates and coordination.
  • Track and monitor student performance and grades throughout the year, specifically targeting marginalized male students.

Requirements

  • Two years minimum experience working with school-aged youth in group scenarios (10-15 youth) preferably in an academic and/or enrichment environment.
  • Understanding of supporting and working with multicultural youth and/or communities.
  • Working knowledge of networking and fundraising skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates Degree and/or Bachelors Degree in Social Services, Teaching, and/or related field - Preferred but not required.
  • Solution-oriented working practice and ability to lead projects independently.
