About the position

The Youth Programs Coordinator will provide leadership for the cooperative planning, development, and coordination of meaningful non-school-time enrichment and recreation, youth service learning, youth development, and aquatics opportunities for area youth and families. This role involves collaboration with other community and school district goals, programs, and initiatives, providing expertise and resources in identifying and prioritizing youth initiatives focused on healthy youth asset building, youth development philosophy, and service learning components.

Responsibilities

  • Cooperatively develop, plan, market, implement, supervise, and evaluate a comprehensive year-round after-school and non-school-time youth development, youth services, youth enrichment and recreation, and aquatics program according to best practices, district's strategic plan, site plans, continuous improvement plans, identified needs and advisory council input.
  • Identify and develop a network of youth resources, opportunities, and collaborations that promote positive youth development within community education and extended day programs, individual schools, and community.
  • Provide leadership in involving youth in advisory roles to address their diverse interests and needs, and encourage the involvement of youth as a resource in designing activities in cooperation with appropriate administrators, school personnel, community agencies, and existing groups.
  • Coordinate and monitor non-school hour youth classes, youth and family enrichment/education activities, and aquatics registration process, procedures, determination of fees, and scheduling/staffing needs with appropriate community education services and activities department staff, and principals.
  • Recruit, supervise, train, and evaluate staff, youth program instructors, and others involved in the operation of the youth and family education programs.
  • Serve as a mentor and provide ongoing training for instructors and program staff in behavior management and child guidance principles in accordance with district policies and schools procedures, and SPED guidelines.
  • Work in cooperation with appropriate staff to prepare, monitor, and control the expenditure of funds for the program's budgets and ensure programs remain self-supported based on revenue collected.
  • Research, write, and revise procedures, handbooks, reports, and forms for use in administering the program in accordance with district policies, procedures, state mandates, and advisory groups input.
  • Assist in gathering, analyzing, compiling, and presenting data for required and requested school board reports, advisory council meetings, state reports, evaluations, needs assessments, and program administration.
  • Work with the Director of Community Education Services, appropriate staff, and community agencies on matters related to risk management, joint programming, increasing access to opportunities available, recognition, orientation, and training of youth volunteers and staff to ensure effective collaborations and positive youth development.
  • Advocate and provide administrative support for asset-based youth development and family programs throughout the district and community.
  • Research, meet, and network with other youth program coordinators and Community Education Youth Development Leadership Coalition in order to incorporate best practices, share ideas, resources, and program development ideas.
  • Assist with district-wide Community Education Services program activities and events and involve youth as needed.
  • Participate in professional development activities as appropriate and maintain professional expertise.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • BA or BS degree in related field.
  • Minimum two years experience in youth development and/or youth enrichment/recreational programming.
  • Familiarity with youth asset building and youth as a resource, preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals and diverse groups of people.
  • Group facilitation skills and/or experience necessary.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work assignments.
  • Strong organizational, supervisory, planning, marketing/promotion, evaluation, and program development skills.
  • Skilled in use of computers and various software applications.
