About the position

The Youth Sports Instructor at the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County is responsible for coaching, refereeing, and supervising various youth sports programs. This part-time role focuses on creating a welcoming and safe environment for participants while promoting self-awareness and self-confidence through sports. The instructor will work under the Youth Sports Director and is expected to uphold the core values of the YMCA in all interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Referee, coach, and supervise various youth sports programs.
  • Create a welcoming and nurturing environment for all members and guests.
  • Develop rapport and maintain effective relationships with members, participants, and staff.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff as part of a team.
  • Provide a safe and welcoming environment for participants.
  • Enforce health and safety rules and maintain emergency readiness.
  • Respond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Check youth sports equipment and report any problems promptly.
  • Set up and put away equipment before and after youth sports programs.
  • Participate in mandatory in-service trainings.
  • Uphold the core values of the YMCA in all interactions.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making.
  • Ability to relate to people in a positive, but firm manner.
  • Observant and safety-conscious.
  • Ability to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
  • Effective communication skills regarding YMCA programs to members and participants.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Full range of body movement.
