About the position

The City and County of Denver's Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is dedicated to providing a wide range of world-class programs, services, facilities, and park amenities throughout Denver. The Youth Sports Team plays a crucial role in enriching the lives of Denver's youth by offering engaging sports programs in a fun and energetic atmosphere. The Youth Sports programming encompasses various activities including baseball, basketball, cheerleading, flag football, gymnastics, soccer, softball, t-ball, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and more, catering to the diverse interests of the youth in the community. The Program Coordinator position is essential for supporting and coordinating these vital programming opportunities. The primary focus of this role will be on the coordination of tennis programs, alongside camps, cheerleading, gymnastics, track and field, and supporting league sports as needed. The Youth Sports Program Coordinator will be responsible for developing, marketing, implementing, and organizing Youth Sports programming throughout the metro area while managing the day-to-day operations of the programs. This includes collaborating with Recreation Center Coordinators, Recreation Supervisors, city representatives, and partner organizations to ensure effective facility usage and program implementation. In addition to program coordination, the Youth Sports Coordinator will manage part-time staff and volunteers to ensure high-quality program delivery across Denver. Responsibilities will also include timekeeping for part-time staff, overseeing recruitment and training processes, managing program registrations, and engaging in community outreach activities to increase participation in Youth Sports programming. The Coordinator will serve as a liaison between the Department of Parks and Recreation, U.S. Tennis Association (USTA), and other organizations to facilitate tennis court permitting and usage, while also overseeing program equipment inventory and transport as necessary. The role may also involve coaching, officiating, and site supervising as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate tennis programs and support other youth sports programs as needed.
  • Develop, market, implement, and organize Youth Sports programming throughout the metro area.
  • Collaborate with Recreation Center Coordinators, Recreation Supervisors, city representatives, and partner organizations to coordinate facility usage and program implementation.
  • Manage part-time staff and volunteers to ensure high-quality program delivery across Denver.
  • Perform timekeeping for assigned part-time staff including coaches, site supervisors, scorekeepers, and sports officials to ensure timely and accurate payroll functions.
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, placement, training, and performance coaching of part-time staff.
  • Manage program registrations, ensuring rosters and schedules are always accurate.
  • Administer and review program participant evaluations for assigned programs, analyzing findings to improve program quality and effectiveness.
  • Engage in outreach activities focused on community engagement and increasing participation in Youth Sports programming.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Department of Parks and Recreation, U.S. Tennis Association (USTA), and other organizations for tennis court permitting and usage.
  • Oversee program equipment inventory and transport equipment to and from recreation centers as necessary.
  • Perform other Youth Sports functions such as coaching, officiating, and/or site supervising as needed.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, HiSET, or TASC Certificate.
  • Five (5) years of experience working in recreation, education, or a closely related field.
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Requires certification in CPR/First Aid at the time of application or by the completion of probation.
