About the position

The z/OS Systems Programmer will be responsible for the maintenance and administration of the mainframe z/OS operating system, associated storage systems, and systems software products. This role includes handling upgrades, patching, and supporting the UNIX System Services environment, as well as maintaining and upgrading DB2 and other mainframe-related components. The position requires support for off-hour production and weekend implementations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and administering the z/OS operating system, storage systems, and systems software products.
  • Performing upgrades, patching, and general administration of DB2 and other mainframe components.
  • Managing UNIX System Services and providing support for mainframe-related storage.
  • Handling production off-hour coverage and supporting periodic weekend implementations as needed.
  • Upgrading mainframe and related storage systems.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience working with z/OS, JES2, SMP/E, TSO, IOCP/HCD, and basic IBM utilities (IDCAMS, IEFBR14, etc.).
  • Proven expertise in program product installations and working knowledge of IBM virtual tape systems and UNIX System Services.
  • Experience with VTAM and TCP/IP.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as OMEGAMON.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written), interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
  • Experience working on enterprise-wide, large-scale implementations.
  • Ability to manage mainframe CPU installs as a systems programmer consultant.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of CICS, IMS, DB2, and AFP printing is a plus.
