About the position

The z/OS Systems Programmer is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, installation, patching, upgrades, and administration of the mainframe z/OS operating system and associated systems software products. This role also includes support for UNIX Systems Services and DB2 upgrades, ensuring the stability and performance of the mainframe environment. The candidate will provide production off-hour coverage and support periodic weekend implementations as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Ongoing maintenance of the mainframe z/OS operating system.
  • Installation, patching, and upgrades of the z/OS operating system and related storage systems.
  • Administration of accompanying systems software products such as database, transaction server, and security management.
  • Maintenance and upgrades of DB2.
  • Provide production off-hour coverage and support for periodic weekend implementations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience working with z/OS, JES2, SMP/E, TSO, IOCP/HCD.
  • Experience with VTAM and TCP/IP.
  • Basic IBM utilities knowledge (IDCAMS, IEFBR14, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of the IBM virtual tape system and Unix System Services.
  • Experience with CICS, IMS, DB2, and AFP printing is a plus.
  • Experience using monitoring tools such as OMEGAMON.
  • Experience in large-scale enterprise-wide implementations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with mainframe CPU installs as a systems programmer consultant.
