About the position

The Zone Supervisor at Compass Connections is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a shelter, ensuring the safety and well-being of the service population, and managing staff assignments. This role involves coordinating activities, monitoring compliance with regulations, and providing support to both staff and children in a structured environment. The supervisor plays a key role in fostering positive interactions and maintaining a professional and ethical atmosphere within the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards applicable to this position.
  • Report all serious incidents and daily activities to the Shelter Manager.
  • Assist with the development of shift schedules and staff assignments to ensure safety.
  • Monitor, coordinate, and delegate daily facility operations tasks throughout the shift.
  • Know procedures for and monitor proper dispensing of non-prescription medications when medical staff are not on duty.
  • Supervise the general interaction of the service population, promoting positive interactions among children.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise activities for children according to the daily activity schedule.
  • Identify routine maintenance work/repair and report it to the Shelter Manager.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings, in-service training, and team decisions.
  • Assist in household laundry of linens, children's clothing, and routine cleaning of bedrooms and living areas.
  • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of records regarding clothing and personal items.
  • Schedule air and ground transportation of the service population when needed.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed or requested by the position supervisor.
  • Implement safety protocols including evacuating with children and staff in emergencies.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards of conduct as outlined in the employee handbook.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience required; two years preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond sensitively to the service population's cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and service providers.
  • Crisis intervention skills as per training provided by Compass Connections.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining emotional control.
  • Computer literacy required to meet job responsibilities.
