About the position

The Teaching Zoo is seeking a part-time Receptionist/Guest Services Specialist to manage front desk operations during weekends. This role involves greeting guests, handling ticket and merchandise sales, and providing information about zoo tours and events. The position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Receive and greet guests at the zoo.
• Handle ticket sales, merchandise sales, and membership sales.
• Answer phone calls and provide appropriate information or referrals for scheduling tours and events.
• Book zoo tours, planetarium tours, birthday parties, and educational programs.
• Maintain inventory of merchandise and ensure gift shop upkeep.
• Run daily cashier reports and manage cash handling duties.
• Coordinate student tour guides and assist with data collection.
• Assist with holiday and event responsibilities as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Office Supervisor or Director.

Requirements

• An Associate's degree plus experience, or a combination of two years of post-secondary education and experience.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Windows OS and productivity tools such as word processing and spreadsheets.
• Experience with cashiering and retail sales is essential.
• Ability to work under pressure and without supervision, while being organized and punctual.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of the Gainesville area and local attractions.
• Experience in customer service for at least one year.
• Experience in cash handling for at least one year.
