About The Position

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a collaborative and strategic Director of Web Content to lead the University’s enterprise-wide digital content strategy. This is an exciting opportunity to shape how the institution communicates across its digital ecosystem, including the external website, internal portal, and digital signage platforms. In this role, you will establish and guide web content governance, editorial standards, and content lifecycle strategy across a decentralized network of contributors. You will partner closely with Enrollment Marketing, University Communications, Information Technology, and academic and administrative units to ensure content is consistent, accessible, optimized, and aligned with institutional priorities. This position offers the opportunity to lead a high-impact content function that directly supports student recruitment, engagement, and institutional brand strength. The Director will also lead and develop a team of content professionals while driving innovation, scalability, and continuous improvement across all digital platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Digital Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, Information Science, Web/Digital Media, or a related field.
  • 7–10 years of progressive experience in web content strategy, digital communications, or content management in a complex, multi-stakeholder organization.
  • 3–5 years of leadership experience, including direct supervision and team development.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead enterprise-level web content strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and drive adoption across decentralized teams.
  • Expertise in content strategy, information architecture, SEO, usability, and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2, ADA compliance, W3C standards).
  • Experience managing large-scale, multi-platform content ecosystems (e.g., Sitecore, SharePoint Online, digital signage platforms).
  • Proven ability to develop and implement content governance frameworks, including workflows, ownership models, and editorial standards.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret performance data and translate insights into actionable content improvements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present strategy, train stakeholders, and guide distributed contributors.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven problem-solving and critical thinking abilities with a focus on scalable solutions and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage complex content environments.
  • Commitment to IT core values, including accountability, continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of the University’s enterprise web content strategy across all digital platforms, including Sitecore, SharePoint Online, and digital signage systems.
  • Establish and maintain web content governance policies, editorial standards, workflows, and lifecycle management practices aligned with institutional policies and accessibility requirements (WCAG/ADA).
  • Define and evolve content voice, tone, messaging frameworks, and editorial direction to ensure consistency across all digital properties.
  • Lead major content initiatives, including website redesigns, content audits, migrations, and information architecture improvements.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of content strategists, writers, and editors, including performance management and professional development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners across Enrollment Marketing, Communications, IT, UX/Design, and academic units to align content strategy with institutional goals.
  • Design and optimize scalable content operations, including workflows for creation, review, approval, and publishing across platforms.
  • Lead training and enablement programs for distributed content contributors across the University.
  • Define and monitor content performance metrics (SEO, engagement, conversion) and leverage analytics to inform optimization strategies.
  • Oversee content quality, accuracy, accessibility, and consistency across all digital platforms to ensure a high-quality user experience.
