Prerequisites
High school diploma or equivalent educational diploma (e.g., a GED or foreign diploma).
Completion of a medical administrative assistant training program within the last 5 years, which includes administrative office procedures, computer applications, medical terminology, medical law and ethics, patient records, and basic clinical knowledge.
Alternatively, at least 1 year of supervised work experience in the healthcare field performing the duties of a medical administrative assistant within the last 3 years if a formal training program was not completed.
Submission of an application to the NHA and payment of the associated fee.
Achievement of a passing score on the CMAA Certification Exam.
Maintenance of certification through continuing education and re-certification processes as required by the NHA.
