About The Position

Under supervision, the incumbent is responsible for a variety of administrative and clinical skills established by the Primary Care Nurse Manager/MD/RN Supervisor. The role involves assisting in performing and providing clinical care, duties, and tasks for patients of all ages. The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) assists in performing and providing clinical care, duties, and tasks for patients of all ages. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) primarily works 1:1 with the Primary Care Provider (PCP) and participates in pre-visit planning to anticipate patient and PCP needs.

Requirements

  • Must be certified through the following associations: National Healthcare Association (NHA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or National Associate of Health Professionals (NAHP) (CMA)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be substituted, is required of the position. Can be acquired through the facility following appointment to position. (CMA)
  • Practical nursing diploma from an accredited program required. (LPN)
  • Must have an unrestricted valid Practical Nurse License within the State of North Carolina. (LPN)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required of the position. Can be acquired within 6 months through the facility following appointment to position. (LPN)
  • Applicant must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate of Applied Science degree from a CAAHEP-accredited college preferred. (CMA)
  • 2 years of experience is preferred. (CMA)
  • Two years of nursing experience preferred. (LPN)
  • 2 years’ experience preferred for the position. (LPN)

Responsibilities

  • Recognizes and reports to the registered nurse or medical provider abnormal findings related to vital signs, clinical signs and symptoms, and laboratory findings.
  • Implements administrative duties including answering phones, scheduling appointments, greeting patients, updating registration information, preparing correspondence, processing insurance claims, processing mail, maintaining supplies and equipment, arranging hospital admissions and referrals, and calling prescriptions to the pharmacy.
  • Implements clinical care including taking and recording vital signs, recording patient interviews and history, providing patient education, preparing patients for examinations, performing routine screening tests, phlebotomy and collection of lab specimens, performing basic lab tests, performing EKGs, preparing and administering medications with physician's authorization (excluding IVs), performing first aid procedures, maintaining supplies and equipment, stocking and sterilizing instruments, completing finger stick glucose monitoring, assisting primary care providers with diagnostic tests and examinations, monitoring intake and output, performing vision acuity tests, documenting medical data, initiating resuscitative measures in emergencies, operating specialized medical equipment, recognizing and correcting malfunctioning equipment, initiating safety measures, maintaining a safe environment through universal precautions and proper waste management, isolating infected patients, cleaning patient contact areas and equipment, promoting patient advocacy and confidentiality, directly observing and evaluating patient care, participating in nursing quality assurance programs, and utilizing Electronic Health Records (EHR) and care management platforms for documentation.
  • Functions in Outpatient and/or Satellite Clinics under the supervision of the Director, Division of Clinical Services/Director, Division of Nursing or his/her designee.
  • May be subject to on-call and callback.
  • Demonstrates the ability to establish good interpersonal working relationships with patients and staff.
  • Assists with and makes recommendations about supplies and equipment needs.
  • Maintains clean, neat, and safe work environment.
  • Demonstrates ability and willingness to adapt to special circumstances, such as staffing shortages, patient emergencies, fluctuations in census, and disasters.
  • Provides nursing care according to established procedures under the supervision of the charge nurse or supervisor.
  • Manages daily schedule (LPN).
  • Administers immunizations, depo, B12 (LPN).
  • Participates in pre-visit planning to anticipate patient and PCP needs (LPN).
