Prerequisites
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field from an accredited university, plus a minimum of 3 years of HVAC design experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience totaling 6 years.
For those without a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 12 years of experience in HVAC design or a related field is required.
Understanding of and experience with HVAC system concepts, equipment, load calculations, and the integration of systems into various architectural contexts.
Compliance with the ASHRAE Code of Ethics and continuing education requirements to maintain certification.
Passing the CHD examination, which assesses knowledge and application of HVAC design principles and practices.
Membership with ASHRAE is recommended but not mandatory for certification eligibility.
