Prerequisites
A formal education in a health-related field, which could be an associate degree or higher from an accredited institution.
Completion of an NCRA-Accredited Formal Education Program in Cancer Registry Management or Cancer Data Management, if the candidate does not have an associate degree or higher.
A minimum of 160 hours of practicum experience in a CTR-staffed cancer registry if the candidate has completed an NCRA-Accredited Formal Education Program.
Professional experience in the cancer registry field, with specific requirements varying depending on the level of formal education. This could range from 1 year of full-time experience to several years of part-time experience.
Successful completion of the CTR Certification Examination, which assesses knowledge in cancer disease coding and staging, abstracting and registry operations, among other areas.
