Backend Software Engineer - Feature Platform

As a Backend Engineer in the Data Solution at Adyen, you will be responsible for building and scaling the brain behind the Adyen platform. Your focus will be on scaling access to intelligence and capabilities that businesses need to achieve their ambitions. You will be part of the Feature Platform team, working on machine-learning powered products within the payment flow. This includes building data pipelines and a distributed storage layer to serve complex features in real-time globally. • Build and evolve solutions at the intersection between the distributed fintech platform and the big data platform
• Work in a cross-functional and cross-border team with roles like Data Engineering, Data Science, and Product
• Launch fast and iterate often, bringing code live that impacts many businesses and shoppers
• Be fully responsible for the initial design and bringing new functionality live
• Identify and improve parts of the platform to make it more robust and scalable
• Collaborate across teams and time zones to make things happen, review code, and be open to feedback
• Have proven experience working with JVM-based programming languages, distributed systems, and large-scale databases
• Balance pragmatism with going into detail and have a healthy degree of curiosity
• Take ownership, lead projects, and involve others based on a solid understanding of the "why" behind it
• Have great communication skills and the ability to articulate complex, technical concepts
• Have full professional proficiency in English
• Previous experience working on platform teams or with open-sourcing internal projects (if applicable)

• Proven experience working with JVM-based programming languages (e.g. Java, Kotlin, Scala), distributed systems, and large-scale databases (both relational and non-relational)
• Ability to balance pragmatism with attention to detail and curiosity in finding unobvious solutions
• Strong ownership and leadership skills, with the ability to lead projects and involve others
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex, technical concepts
• Full professional proficiency in English (written and verbal)
• Previous experience working on platform teams or with open-sourcing internal projects
