Prerequisites
High school diploma or equivalent; candidates without a high school diploma are eligible if they are enrolled in a high school education program
Completion of 120 hours of formal early childhood education training, covering the growth and development of children ages birth to 5 years, with no fewer than 10 training hours in each of the eight CDA subject areas
At least 480 hours of professional work experience in a center-based, home visitor, or family child care setting within the past five years
Preparation of a professional portfolio that includes reflective statements of competence, a resource collection, and family questionnaires
Successful completion of the CDA Exam
Observation by a CDA Professional Development Specialist in the candidate's work setting to evaluate and demonstrate competency with young children
