Prerequisites
High school diploma or equivalent; candidates without a high school diploma are eligible if they are enrolled in a high school education program while pursuing their CDA.
Completion of 120 hours of formal early childhood education training, covering the eight CDA subject areas, within the past five years.
At least 480 hours of professional work experience in a childcare setting with young children within the past five years.
Creation of a professional portfolio that includes reflective statements of competence, family questionnaires, and resource collection items.
Submission of the CDA application and payment of the assessment fee to the Council for Professional Recognition.
Successful completion of the CDA Exam and the Verification Visit, which includes being observed working with children and an interview with a CDA Professional Development Specialist.
