Mechanical Design Engineer

This job overview is for the position of Mechanical Design Engineer at Helion, a fusion power company based in Everett, WA. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on hardware designs for Helion's fusion generator prototypes. This role involves owning and understanding subsystem designs, designing fusion hardware using CAD software, performing analysis with tools like ANSYS, and troubleshooting and fixing hardware issues. The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of professional experience in engineering projects, experience working with multidisciplinary teams, and advanced skills in CAD software. A bachelor's degree in engineering is required.

- Own and understand subsystem designs such as electromagnetic, structural, fluid, thermal and control systems, and improve their requirements - Learn from historical engineering approaches, design novel hardware, and test your solutions - Design fusion hardware within CAD Software (NX, Solidworks, etc) - Perform analysis with tools like ANSYS and hold design reviews to gather feedback and iterate to a fully functioning system - Learn from experts to expand your engineering skillset and domain knowledge - Work hands-on alongside skilled technicians to build and improve your hardware designs - Troubleshoot and fix hardware issues as they arise on integrated fusion generators - Experience working with multidisciplinary teams within a fast-paced environment - Experience managing complex engineering projects (including schedule ownership) - Ability to apply both engineering first-principles and methodical thinking to challenging problems - Hands-on exposure to a variety of engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, fluids) - Advanced experience with CAD software (NX, Solidworks, etc.) - Experience with FEA software (ANSYS Maxwell, FEMAP, etc.) - Experience in the engineering of plasma or high-voltage systems - Bachelor’s degree in engineering
