Mechanical Engineer, Early Career

Helion is seeking an early-career Mechanical Engineer to join their team and take ownership of hardware designs for fusion generator prototypes. This role offers a unique opportunity to solve multidisciplinary engineering problems and contribute to the deployment of fusion energy. The successful candidate will work closely with experts in the field, utilize CAD and FEA software, and collaborate with technicians to build and improve hardware designs. This position requires 1-2 years of collegiate internship or project team experience, hands-on exposure to various engineering disciplines, and proficiency in CAD and FEA software. A bachelor's degree in engineering is required.

- Own and understand subsystem designs such as electromagnetic, structural, fluid, thermal, and control systems, and improve their requirements - Learn from historical engineering approaches, design novel hardware, and test your solutions - Use CAD software (NX, Solidworks, etc.) to design fusion hardware - Perform analysis with tools like ANSYS and hold design reviews to gather feedback and iterate to a fully functioning system - Learn from experts to expand your engineering skillset and domain knowledge - Work hands-on alongside skilled technicians to build and improve your hardware designs - Troubleshoot and fix hardware issues as they arise on integrated fusion generators

- 1-2 years of collegiate internship or project team experience that includes working with multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment and managing complex engineering projects and schedules - Ability to apply both engineering first-principles and methodical thinking to challenging problems - Hands-on exposure to a variety of engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, fluids) - Experience with CAD software (NX, Solidworks, etc.) - Experience with FEA software (ANSYS, COMSOL, FEMAP, etc.) - Bachelor's degree in engineering - Baccalaureate GPA 3.25 or above - Experience in the engineering of plasma or high-voltage systems
