Prerequisites
A minimum of three years of payroll experience within the five years prior to taking the exam, which includes direct or related involvement in payroll production, reporting, accounting, systems, taxation, administration, or education/consulting.
Completion of specific payroll work experience which is defined by the APA. This can include being responsible for the payroll function, implementing payroll systems, or teaching payroll.
For those who have completed the APA’s Payroll Practice Essentials course, the experience requirement is reduced to 18 months.
FPP (Fundamental Payroll Certification) holders must have been in practice for at least the three years prior to the date of the CPP examination.

Successful completion of the CPP examination, which covers compliance, payroll calculation, payroll process and systems, accounting, management, and administration.
